CCLS & PARCC update

This week, SAANYS received the following information from SED, including a link to a video in which Commissioner King addresses parents in regard to common core standards and the upcoming 3-8 state assessments. In this regard, I also want to bring to your attention the April 2013 edition of News & Notes that highlights a Board of Regents discussion regarding next week’s 3-8 assessments, along with a link to access a video recording of that portion of the Regents meeting.

Also, the information below and the information accessible through the links is an important PARCC update. It includes the opportunity to comment upon proposed Performance Level Descriptors (PDLs) and finalized information about important assessment considerations such as the PARCC Calculator Policy. Please remember that although New York is a Governing State in the PARCC consortium, the state Board of Regents has not yet adopted the PARCC assessments for implementation in 2014-15. Therefore PARCC policies such as authorized calculator use and Student Assessment Reference Sheets do not currently apply to New York State and certainly do not apply to this year’s state assessments.
