Three times per year, the SAANYS Government Relations Committee meets with the commissioner of education and key senior staff. As the end of his tenure approaches, Commissioner Mills said to members at the June 3 GRC meeting, “Thank you for your wonderful advice.” He and Interim Commissioner Carole Huxley promised to relate to the new commissioner how “indispensable” this relationship with SAANYS is.
Some of the topics covered at the meeting included the Race to the Top funds, the future initiatives of the department, P-16, college readiness, and IEP diplomas and alternative credentials. Watch for a detailed outline of the meeting, as well as a report on legislative office visits, in the June e-newsletter.
